Salinity and its impact on the food system and livestock
In the Bangladeshi and Vietnamese deltas, salinity intrusion is becoming more and more of a problem, particularly during the dry season. The increasingly saline water and soil are hampering livestockandfarming. In this video, we take a look at the water system andits relation to salinity challenges in Bangladesh’s coastal belt. Next, we focus on the links between livestock and salinity.
One link is that livestock needs fresh water to drink to stay healthy and to keep up production levels.Another link is that fodder production is suffering because of the increasing salinity which, in turn, is putting pressure on the livestock sector.
