Iye Echa was born in Nigeria and now resides since 2010 in the Netherlands where he composes original music, performs and teaches music. A prolific composer, Echa has recorded and presented more than 10 albums to date, and will be presenting songs from his latest albums Zim Love and Space For Two during the concert. Echa's Trio is composed of trumpeter Henk van Zeijts, who himself is a recognised voice on the trumpet around Utrecht and leader of the jazz/funk group Crashmen. On percussion is Mexican born percussionist Arturo Escalante, also known in the Utrecht jazz scene and passionate about latin percussion and improvised music. Together, the trio presents composed as well as improvised music full of excitement, risk taking and beauty. The music of the trio is fresh and enchanting, it draws you in and takes you on a voyage through the rural landscape of Africa, North America and Western Europe.
