Student testimonial
Lina De Los Rios Torres- MSc Governance of Sustainability Transitions
“After a bachelor's in social sciences (anthropology and development sociology) with majors in law and public policy, I was looking for a master programme that could integrate my interests in international and intracultural cooperation, human rights and environmental protection, while providing the opportunity to take a social science perspective. I found Wageningen University while working on my bachelor's thesis focused on rights for nature and the intersection between land rights and human rights in the Colombian pacific. I was immediately convinced that this master would be the perfect place to continue learning from experts, be inspired and deepen the knowledge I had already gathered.”
Curriculum
“Currently I am finishing my internship at the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the global organisation that protects the rights of people at work. The ITUC engages with multilateral negotiations under the WTO, UNFCCC and other high- level fora, and is currently fighting for transitions that are not just green and clean but also just and fair. I feel like the courses I followed with the Environmental Law chair group and the Public Administration and Policy chair group provided me with enough theoretical background to meaningfully and critically engage within the global trade union world and propose innovative and creative ways forward. The program and courses in this way helped me to understand the academic frameworks that lie at the foundation of my activism.”
Faculty
“One of my favourite things about Wageningen is the care and dedication that the teaching staff has for its students. In my experience, the teaching staff was very engaged and supportive, always open to brainstorm and propose ideas and projects that fit my personal needs and aspirations.”
Research opportunities
“As part of my MSc thesis I joined a research team from the UvA on SDG interactions. My thesis supervisor suggested that I join the group to broaden my knowledge on the topic and engage with other students working on the same topic at other universities. This was very valuable and the collaboration with the other master students was both inspiring and enriching.”
Career prospects
“This master programme provides great opportunities to work in the international environmental policy and governance field. With my current internship in Brussel, I am learning that I can both work within NGO's and European or International governmental institutions or agencies, making my job prospects exciting and broad.”
Student life
“Wageningen has left me with great memories of the last part of my studies. It is a place where you can meet very inspiring people, make great friends, learn from experts and build personal connections with your mentors. There are always things to do, and there is a lot of space to organise things or bring new ideas and creativity, making Wageningen even more colourful!”
