FACCE-JPI and Water JPI explore possibilities for further cooperation
Agriculture faces important challenges when it comes to water demand, water use efficiency as well as water pollution. The two Joint Programming Initiatives FACCE-JPI and Water JPI have been exploring their remits and possibilities to join forces to tackle issues related to the sustainable management of water resources in agriculture, forestry and freshwater aquaculture which resulted in joint research through the ERA-Net WaterWorks 2015 (WW2015). In a 2017 workshop, the two JPIs started exploring possibilities to link relevant themes in each other’s Strategic Research (and Innovation) Agendas.
The first research outputs of WaterWorks2015 joint call were presented in one of the sessions of this year’s symposium of the European Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Advisory Commission (EIFAAC) held 9-11 September in Berlin. During this session also was presented the Common Vision for adapting the strategies of the two JPIs. The audience was informed about the ongoing discussion between both JPIs and was given a short overview of the JPIs themselves. The EIFAAC symposium gathered more than 90 experts from 15 countries, they met to discuss the development and advance inter- and transdisciplinary approaches regarding commercial and recreational inland fisheries, aquacultures and conservation questions. On the 26th of September, FACCE-JPI and Water JPI had a joint workshop at Paris where experts met and gave input for actions between the two JPIs. A number of topics were discussed in breakout sessions such as the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate change across both strategies, ways to increase the impact of both Strategic Research and Innovation Agendas, and the identification of synergies after WW2015.
