EAU-NITRATE

Gives information and technical advices for a sustainable nitrogen management.

It is divided in four main themes.

  1. General information about the Walloon region and nitrogen cycle’s.
  2. Calculate the soil linkage (LS). The LS is the produced organic nitrogen and the spreading capacity ratio. Standard quantities (in kg) of manure produced by each kind of animal are multiplied by the number of animals resulting in the organic nitrogen to be spread. The spreading capacity is determined by multiplying the land surfaces with allowed maximum legal standard of organic nitrogen. LS is the ratio of these two figures. If the LS is higher than 1, the farmer must export part of his organic nitrogen. Farmers with a LS less than 1are allowed to import organic nitrogen up to a LS of 1.
  3. Good agricultural practices regarding the application of organic manure (when, on what, in what quantity etc.) With also simple tables to estimate the quantities to spread according to the legislation, the crop demands, the fertilization history etc. in order to optimize the fertilization of grassland and fodder crops. It presents the characteristics of catch crops.
  4. Manure storage with standards for buildings and manure storing places (capacity, characteristics).
