2. SAFE FOODS research



WP3, within the SAFE FOODS project, addresses some of the limitations in present risk assessment of chemicals to provide better tools to perform these assessments and to help risk managers in making their decisions.

The limitations in current risk assessments procedures in Europe that are addressed in WP3 are:

  • Use of non-harmonised procedures and databases to assess the dietary exposure in Europe
  • Use of the NOAEL and fixed safety factors to quantify safe levels of dietary exposure
  • Single compound assessment.
