Soil Chemistry Group involved in Science paper on soil multifuntionality
Less intensive soil management works best for agricultural soils, independent whether the soil is conventionally or organically managed.
This is one of the fascinating main conclusions of a recently published paper in the prestigious scientific journal Science, written by the research team of the Vital Soils project. This project was led by the Netherlands Institute for Ecology (NIOO-KNAW). Of the Soil Chemistry group, former PhD candidate Guusje Koorneef and professor Rob Comans were involved in the project.
Their results suggest that reducing management intensity will enhance soil multifuntionality in both conventional and organic farming, giving farmers concrete suggestions how to manage their soils in a sustainable way.
