Jeroen Candel on: Dialogue about the pitfalls of contract research
Associate professor Jeroen Candel was recently involved in a dialogue about the opportunities and pitfalls of contracted research in the domains of Wageningen University and Research.
An interesting and nuanced discussion ensued, zooming in on the role research performed at WUR has played in the development of the European Farm to Fork strategy. Looking through the lens of Roger Pielke’s typology of the way science-policy interactions can be analyzed, and accepting the broad ambition of WUR to have societal impact, the dialogue also zoomed in on the risk that the intention to broker and mediate between science and policy transcends into advocacy, and ways of avoiding this.
