BiodivERsA

BiodivERsA is a network of 39 research-funding agencies and ministries across 25 European and associated countries funded under the Horizon 2020 ERA-NET COFUND scheme. BiodivERsA works to coordinate national research programmes on biodiversity and ecosystem services across Europe, and to organize international funding for research projects in this field. Since 2005, BiodivERsA has launched 8 calls for proposals for a total amount of €197m to fund around 104 pan-European research projects selected for both their scientific excellence and societal/policy relevance. Some of the research topics driven forward include wildlife diseases and their impact on biodiversity loss, peatlands conservation and species adaptation to climate change. The driving objective of BiodivERsA is to develop sustainable mechanisms to promote strategic cooperation in biodiversity research and related disciplines at an international scale. With the recognition of the need to strengthen the science-policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services, the BiodivERsA policy briefs aim to present the findings and recommendations of selected BiodivERsA research projects to policy-makers in the EU institutions and European national governments.
