Francesca Galli

Francesca Galli is an Associate Professor at the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment, University of Pisa (Italy), since March 2023, where she teaches courses in Agri-food Policy and Agricultural Economics.

With over a decade of experience in European research programs (FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe) and national projects, her work explores the multidimensionality of agriculture and food systems, addressing their socio-economic, environmental, and political challenges. Her key research interests include food systems, their vulnerabilities, food and nutrition security, the relations along food value chains, rural-urban governance, the role of farms in territorial food systems and the role of food policies for sustainable food systems. Her work connects closely with societal and policy actors, adopting a transdisciplinary perspective.

She serves as an evaluator for the European Commission’s Research Executive Agency. She is vice-president of the European Society for Rural Sociology (2023-2025) and has been part of the expert group for the SAPEA (2023) evidence review report on sustainable food consumption for the European Commission. She is a member of the Advisory Board of Food Policy (Elsevier) and has held leadership roles in the Italian Network of Local Food Policies and the Italian Association of Agricultural and Applied Economists (AIEAA).
