Bettina Baruth

Dr. Barruth is representing the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC) on the FACCE-JPI Scientific Advisory Board. Bettina works at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission and her career developed around agricultural topics, focussing on the monitoring of agricultural production, from a context of market balance sheets to the more holistic approach of sustainable food systems. She worked many years as Deputy Head of the Food Security unit engaging with many scientists across the JRC, policy DG’s, the agencies and international organizations and stakeholders for topics related to food systems, food security, agri-environmental topics and the Common Agricultural Policy. She currently works as the scientific assistant to the Director for the Sustainable Resource Directorate.

She holds a PhD in Physical Geography and has more than 20 years of working experience in the agricultural research domain and the use of earth observation data for vegetation monitoring. She holds one of the GEOGLAM co-chair positions, a GEO Flagship Initiative to increase market transparency and improve food security.
