Maurice Héral is Department Officer in ANR (French National Research Agency) in charge of Environment and Biological Resources since 2011 for national calls on biodiversity, agriculture, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries and impact of global changes. Water management, Eco-technology, and food processing are developed in partnership with private industry.
He was previously General Scientific director during 10 years at IFREMER, the French Institute of Research for the Exploitation of the Sea (Ifremer) where he managed 2000 scientists.
Maurice Héral wrote more than 270 publications in scientific journals and public reports and supervised the realisation of 15 PhD thesis.
He created the network of the Directors ‘European Fisheries and Aquaculture Research Organisation’ EFARO and French delegate member or chair of many international Organisations. As Scientists he coordinated 5 EU contracts on carrying capacity and coastal zone management.
He is now very active to produce calls at the European level in the ERANETs representing French Research and Innovation Ministry through ANR on biodiversity, marine research, and sustainable agriculture in Marinera (Coordinator), Marifish, Biodiversa, Seas-Era, COFASP, SURPLUS, SUSAN, ERAGAZ. He actively participates to the Joint Programming Initiative on marine Oceans , chair of the JPI WATER and now vice-chair of the JPI FACCE.
He is particularly involved in cooperation with the Mediterranean countries and African countries in ERANETs ARIMNET, SEASERA, ERAMED, LEAP Agri (Coordinator) and in the article 185 PRIMA on food security and water management.
