Publication of the ERA-GAS strategy for agricultural and forestry greenhouse gas monitoring and mitigation
The short- and long-term strategy for agricultural and forestry greenhouse gas monitoring and mitigation is now available online. This strategy highlights how the work of the FACCE ERA-GAS consortium and funded transnational projects have so far contributed to the wider strategic objectives of FACCE-JPI related to agriculture, food security and climate.
It also sets both short and long-term strategic aims for the future in the context of the development of Horizon Europe and key research areas as set out in the FACCE-JPI Strategic Research Agenda 2020. These include topics such as the reduction of carbon footprints through circular biomass chains, carbon farming solutions and carbon neutrality of sustainable food systems. Cross-cutting issues are also considered and include the role of citizens and consumers in achieving social innovation and the need to consider trade-offs and co-benefits for a holistic view of sustainable land management.
With higher climate ambitions mainstreamed across EU policy, the FACCE ERA-GAS short and long-term strategy helps to guide future research efforts in agriculture and forestry to meet climate goals.
