Upfield intends to open business location on campus

Upfield Group, a world leader in the production of plant-based margarine, announced today that it plans to invest 50 million euros in a new, state-of-the-art Upfield Food Science Center on Wageningen Campus.

According to Upfield, Wageningen is perceived as the Silicon Valley of the food industry and is considered a world-class location for food innovation. The company is the driving force behind well-known brands such as Blueband, Becel and Hellman's. Upfield has been manufacturing margarines, spreads and cheeses for over 150 years, and is active in 95 countries.

Pushing frontiers

John Verbakel, Chief Research and Development Officer: 'Investments in the new Upfield Food Sciences Center will provide us with access to cutting edge technology and an inspiring and creative network of individuals and companies. This will really allow us to push the frontiers of natural, plant-based food-innovation.' According to Upfield CEO David Haines, the announcement is a new, major step towards ambitious and groundbreaking research and development.

The company intends to open the Upfield Food Science Center before the end of 2021.
