DocuScience: Holy Shit
Have you ever looked back after a morning on the toilet and wondered: is all this hard work completely in vain? In the documentary 'Holy Shit,' the potential of human poop and urine is explored. It is one of the largest waste streams in our current cycle, yet one of the least discussed topics. Throughout the documentary, we follow the entire cycle from poop to sandwich and interview prominent biologists, ecologists, and politicians about their knowledge of good shit. How can we 'butt' into the effort of closing the food cycle, and what is still holding us back? From taboos to laws and regulations, all aspects of this complex but fascinating subject are addressed, providing plenty of 'poop for thought.' The goal is to bring back these valuable fibers to the field, thus truly nourishing our depleted soil through this pathway.
Following the documentary, an informative talkshow will take place, featuring a panel of experts on the topic. We'll delve deeper into the circular food cycle with our Frequently Asked Shit Questions (FASQ) and explore how we can become active participants in our own ecosystem. Together with the audience, we will investigate how we can ensure that the valuable nutrients and resources we flush away are no longer wasted.
The experts joining us will be:
- Prof. dr. Louise Vet, former director of NIOO-KNAW and key figure in the documentary
- Fides Lapidaire and Yanna Hoek, documentary makers
- WUR researchers Wieger Wamelink and Kimo van Dijk
- Jan Dirk van de Voort, farmer and owner of the Remeker cheese farm in Lunteren. Jan Dirk has often been involved in ‘give a shit’ campaigns of Fides and Yanna.
Keep in mind: this documentary and programme will be in Dutch.
