Biobased Industries Consortium (BIC)

BIC (Biobased Industries Consortium) is an NPO representing the private sector in a Public-Private Partnership with the European Commission, the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU). With an office in Brussels, BIC aims to contribute to society's long-term sustainability through the partnership, developing integrative business models along the bio-based value chains, with a focus on biorefinery plants and the technology needs that align to it. BIC membership includes over 240 industry members covering the whole value chain, from primary production to market actors, across such sectors as agriculture, food & feed production; aquaculture; chemicals and materials; forestry and pulp & paper; market actors; technology providers and waste management; and more than 200 associate members from universities and technology organisations. BIC’s vision is to accelerate the innovation and market uptake of bio-based products and services, and to position Europe as the global hub for a sustainable circular bioeconomy. BIC also created a bioeconomy platform – a digital, partnering platform where regions and the bio-based industry can make contact based on mutual interest. The platform focuses on creating local value chains and access to finance, helping regions and industry bridge the gap between bio-based investment opportunities and financial incentives at regional level.
